Getting Creative – Effective Ways to Add More Style to Your Old Kitchen

Diana Smith is one of my very favorite Guest hosts. Today she has some stylish ways to decorate your kitchen. I love these ideas. Enjoy!

Even though it might not seem so at first, kitchens are among the most important rooms in a house. This is where you prepare food and share it with your family, where you make the magic happen, and where you spend a lot of time preparing delicious and nutritious meals for your family and friends. It’s no wonder that many people want their kitchens to be comfortable and modern. While it’s not always easy to achieve this effect, especially if you have an old kitchen, there are still some things you can do to make it more stylish.

Paint the cabinets
Cabinets take up a lot of space in a kitchen, so replacing them can cost a lot. Fortunately, you don’t have to replace them completely, just add a fresh coat of paint and see where it takes you. You can paint the front of your cabinets something bright and daring, for example, ruby red or sunflower yellow, or you could replace the fronts of your cabinets if you want. It will add luxury to your kitchen and you can finish the job in a day. If your cabinets have glass fonts, though, you could try painting the interiors instead. This also works if you want to completely remove the cabinet fronts because it will give your kitchen a completely new look.

New cutlery
Aren’t you bored of opening and closing the kitchen drawers when you’re looking for a spatula or a spoon? Keeping some of the cutlery within reach is a convenient idea, but what if you could keep everything within reach and make it look elegant at the same time? When you have a beautiful collection such as Stanley Rogers’ Albany cutlery, it’s a shame to keep it in a drawer all the time. Dip a mason jar in glitter, tie a burlap ribbon around it, and keep at least some of your spoons and forks in there. It will look stylish and everything will be within your reach at all times.
Different hardware
Replacing old knobs in your kitchen can be seen as a fun and exciting task, especially when you see the said hardware as your kitchen's jewelry. Buying hardware stops being boring and becomes shopping for accessories instead. Simply by swapping your outdated knobs for some new ones, you will take 10 years off an old kitchen and it won’t cost you a fortune either. Traditional, ornate handles might be common, but they’re also boring, which is why you should get some sleek, modern ones instead. Chrome cup pulls are also convenient and they will be a nice update. Still, if you’re on a budget, you could just spray-paint your old hardware instead.

Get a new backsplash
The most visible material in your kitchen has to be the backsplash and its role in the overall look of your kitchen is significant. Upgrading your kitchen doesn’t have to be too difficult; all you need is a brand-new backsplash and the place will seem transformed. Not only will it make the kitchen look modern, but it will also look stylish and add a touch of luxury. You can choose simple geometric tiles in light gray tones, a nice sheet of stainless steel, or even a sheet of colored glass. What is more, all of these materials are very easy to maintain and they’ll last for years to come.

You might hesitate to upgrade your kitchen because you feel it will take too much time and cost too much, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Some of the things we suggested here are very convenient to do and affordable, all you need is a pinch of creativity and the will to change the current state of your old kitchen.
