Inspiring Front Door Décor Ideas

Diana Smith is back on the blog today to share some really great ideas on jazzing up your front door. Check out these great tips from Diana! Thanks again for the great article and I look forward to having you guest host again.

Many people enjoy decorating their home, but often forget their front door. Doors are a great way to attract attention and bring in some personal expression when it comes to exterior decoration. They represent you and your household members, and people can learn much about you from a nice front door decoration. Here are some ideas to get you inspired to upgrade your door.
Letter monogram décor
Pay homage to your family name and members by hanging monogram letters on your door. They can be purchased in a craft store or for a more personal look, you can make your own out of cardboard or hardboard. Decorate the letters with whatever you have at home. You can use fabric, glass pieces, sea shells, flowers or moss. You can make one big letter that will represent your whole family, or make one for each family member.

Chalkboards are in
This is a very functional door décor piece and looks amazing, too. You can purchase a blackboard that is already framed, or you can paint a piece of board or a tray with chalkboard paint. This idea is great because you can change the writing for a daily new look. Write welcome notes, inspiring quotes or your house number. If you are good at drawing, you can draw your family members, or if you have kids, let them draw something. They’ll love playing with it. You can also write little notes like “Back in 10 minutes” or write a joke that will brighten everyone’s day.
Flower baskets for every season
Flower door baskets are slowly replacing traditional wreaths and people are doing all sorts of creative things with them. Baskets look great filled with freshly picked flowers and other floral elements. You can use flowers from your garden, or get some fresh from the market. Artificial flowers are cheaper and more practical, but also a little harder to manipulate and get a realistic look. Whatever you choose, it will look innovative and unique.

Good ol’ wreaths
Wreaths are a classic way to decorate your front door, but they will not go out of fashion any time soon. Welcome spring into your house with some floral wreaths that will make you forget about long and cold winter days. You can make different wreaths for different holidays, like Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day or Easter, or simply give homage to a new season. They are very practical, because they can be made from almost anything you have in your house. You can crochet a wreath from wool or make one from local greenery that grows in your surroundings.

Decorative knobs and knockers
You can upgrade your doors with some classic and elegant knobs made of copper, iron or even glass, or spice things up with some quirky and elegant knockers. If you don’t know how to install new knobs or knockers, call a locksmith from Ryde who will quickly get the job done and save you some trouble. New knobs and knockers may seem like a small change, but they make a world of difference.

Door dream catchers
This is quickly becoming a trendy way to decorate front doors. You can use feathers, flowers, yarn and other things that you have in the house and that represent you and your household. There are some very innovative takes on dream catchers, like the ones made from vintage bicycle tire rims, doilies or various fabrics and ribbons.

Decorating your front door doesn’t have to require much time or extraordinary skills, just some ingenuity and a good eye. There are some traditional décor ideas, like wreaths, on which you can put a personal twist or some more unconventional ones for those who like to think outside the box. Have fun with it and impress anyone who knocks on your door.
